1. About the town

Lopera is a historic town in the province of Jaén, known for its noble houses, peaceful streets, and deep cultural roots. Surrounded by olive groves, it preserves the charm of traditional Andalusian architecture and has ties to the Order of Calatrava and the Spanish Civil War.

2. How to get there from El Jardín de Castillo

The drive from El Jardín de Castillo (Castillo de Locubín) to Lopera takes about one hour. We recommend taking the A-316 towards Jaén and continuing on the A-305 to reach Lopera.

3. What to do there

Lopera is perfect for a relaxed stroll. Don’t miss its castle, the Church of the Immaculate Conception with its beautiful Gothic doorway, and the Town Hall. But above all, let yourself wander through its quiet streets and discover the stately homes and historical atmosphere that define the town.

4. Fun facts

Two sculptures stood out during our visit: one dedicated to emigrants and another very unique one dedicated to domestic pets, depicting a dog and a cat — a charming and unexpected tribute.

5. Where to eat or shop

As we visited on a Sunday morning, we didn’t have the chance to try local food or visit shops. However, around the central market area we found several bars open for breakfast and a churros stand. In the heart of the town you’ll also find Bodega Herruzo, a reminder of Lopera’s nickname “the little Jerez” thanks to its winemaking tradition. Learn more in this article from Jaén Hoy.

Lopera’s slow charm lies in its atmosphere. Simply walk through its peaceful streets and listen to the birdsong — a simple but powerful invitation to unwind.
